What should I do when my kid says “it’s too hard”?

When a child says “reading is too hard”, often I find that simply validating their feelings is enough to get them moving.

Let your child know: “Yes, it IS hard! This is a hard thing that you’re doing.”

Let them know that most kids don’t learn to read until they’re 6 or 7!

In fact, there are adults who can’t even read!

I like to remind my kid that there was a time when going to the potty was hard for them, but they practiced, and now it’s easy.

It usually gets a giggle, but it’s a good reminder that they can do hard things.

In fact, one of my favorite things about Mentava is that every daily practice reinforces that message of “I can do hard things.”
